In The Great Yonder

She lay in the soft yellowing field. The grass grew high and wildly, reaching into the sky. Small patches of white wildflowers scattered themselves amongst the grass. Nearby was a roaring highway, but she couldn't hear it. She was nestled in her own world protected by the grass they grew around her. The sun shone down brightly but she blocked it with her fingers, moving them slightly to cast dancing shadows upon her face.

It had reached early afternoon when she finally sat up. Sticking her hand gently in the air, She caught a small wildflower floating in the wind. It's soft petals caressed her hand as she brought it down to her face. Inhaling it's intoxicating scent, she closed her eyes slowly as a soft whimsical smile crept onto her face, The smell reminded her of when her mother would bring home fresh flowers from the Sunday morning markets.

Encapsulated in it's innocence, she realized it was dusk by the time she finally opened her eyes. The sun was barely peeking out from horizon and the sky was painted with exotic hues of purples and pinks. In one seemingly last powerful gust of wind, she held her arm up in the air and let the tiny flower go, watching it float away into the distance, back on it's original course. With that, the wind dropped and it was silent once again. The only sound was the humming of the highway. The sun said it's last good-byes as it disappeared from the sky and the moon took it's place. She smiled at it's familiar glow and lay her head back down amongst her grassy kingdom.
