Wes Anderson's Intrinsic Essence of Youth

With socially charged preconceptions of youth, it's rare to see a director or a movie that challenges society's views on stereotypical discourses of children. While Wes Anderson's films are usually renowned for their visual impacts and quirky characters, his portrayal of children takes on a more mature and adult theme.

Wes Anderson portrays majority of youth in a mature and wise way. Children are never dismissed; their ideas are instead credited and acknowledged. It's often found that the children in the film take responsibility for their actions and accept the outcomes of situations with a better attitude than most adults. The young girls in Anderson's films almost always have mature minds and react to situations in a calm and thoughtful way, something which young women don't typically tend to deal with in films and TV shows.

While Anderson typically employs thoughtful camera angles, it can be seen that his portrayal of youth extends to specific shots where children are featured. Young boys and girls are often seen at eye-level or even from an upwards angle to present them as dominant in the situation. His use of colour and overall mood all contributes to his view of children being wise.

With such an opposing view in mainstream media, having a film director who promotes the essence of wise youth is crucial for upholding and further developing the views on youth in film.
